How to setup an email account in Outlook 2002 / XP

NOTE: Replace "example.co.uk" with your correct domain name.

Begin by opening Outlook 2002. Click the "Tools" menu at the top and you will get a drop-down window. Click on the "E-mail Accounts" option and a new window will pop-up.

Select the "Add a new e-mail account" option.  Click the "Next" button.

Select the "POP3" option.  Click the "Next" button.

Fill-in the relevant boxes.

User Information

  • The "Your Name" box is for the name you want to show up on your email (it can be anything you want.)
  • For E-mail Address enter your full email address (example: joe_bloggs@example.co.uk)

Server Information

  • Your POP3 mail server address will be mail.example.co.uk
  • Your SMTP mail server address will be the information given to you by your ISP

Logon Information

  • Enter Your "User Name"
  • Enter your password into the "Password" box.
  • Put a check in the "Remember" password box.

Click the "Test Account Settings..." button.

Outlook 2002 will check to see if it can connect to your ISP. It will also check to see if your settings can actually reach your ISP's mail server and logon. Lastly, it will send a test message to see if everything is working.

If any "Tasks" don't get a green checkmark then write them down. Double check all your settings and try the test a second time.

If the test still fails to send the email ( i.e. it is an SMTP error) the second time call your ISP for tech support. Be sure to tell them that you are using Outlook 2002 (XP) and that you did a test connection which identified certain areas where you aren't able to use your e-mail (Those are the areas that didn't get a green checkmark). Have any errors you recieved while testing written down.

If you receive any errors receiving email (i.e. it is a POP3 error) please contact us and we will try to help you.  Have any errors you recieved while testing written down.

If you successfully tested your account settings then click the "Close" button. In the prior window, click the "Next" button and then click the "Finish" button in the final window. You're ready to e-mail your friends.
